Performance Program
Summer Cabaret Performance Program!

This performance workshop will be geared towards creating work for a “cabaret” stage.
This performance program invites you to experiment, question the rules, and venture into the unknown. Cabaret is “illegitimate” theater in that it refuses to accept the fourth wall, it is a stage that invites you to define your own rules and grants you the freedom to be you. The program is designed to cultivate creativity and will culminate in a performance, an opportunity to listen to the audience and connect with them.

Students will be challenged to create works that engage with the current cultural and political moment and be encouraged to find their authentic voice on stage. We will play with ideas of character and alter ego, breaking or creating a 4th wall, physicality and how our bodies exist on stage. Experimentation, play, testing of boundaries and creativity are key to this experience. There are no wrong answers.
This program is open to students working in all circus disciplines that can be presented on a small stage such as solo and doubles aerial, clown, juggling, contortion, acro etc.
We will have 4 weeks of instruction and weekly open rehearsals followed by a week to prep for the show. Each artist will be able to drop into 4 classes of their choosing (any drop-in class offered by Circus Academy except for trampoline and flying) along with Physical Acting/Dance (Tuesdays), Collaborative Act Creation (Wednesdays), and Open Rehearsal (Sundays).
