  • Mar 28
  • 2 min read

In this workshop, we will explore fundamentals of hand beats with skill progressions appropriate to a variety of student levels. We will also connect various tempos and rolls, with an emphasis on entrances and exits for elbow circles. All the skills we learn can be applied to lyra as well. This workshop will cater to intermediate/advanced level aerialists who meet the prerequisites, even if trapeze is not their primary discipline.

Prerequisites: 3 unassisted consecutive skin the cats; strong, confident inversion (straight arm inversion not required); pull-up to pull over landing with hips on the bar, 3 unassisted consecutive "flowers" (from hip hang, controlled ascent and descent to front balance). If you have any questions about the prerequisites, please reach out to office@circusacademy.com.

With a background in competitive gymnastics and a BFA in Musical Theatre (Marymount Manhattan College), Troy knew they’d found their calling while taking their first aerial silks class (thank you, Groupon). Over ten years later, Troy is one of NYC’s most recognizable circus artists: performing in the city’s top cabaret and variety shows, and coaching adults of all ages at various studios. Troy has worked with Austin McCormick’s Company XIV (Nutcracker Rouge, Seven Sins), Angela Butch’s ABCirque, (Petroushka in Stravinski’s Petroushka), and regularly performs at The Box, The House of Yes, The Stranger, The Red Pavilion, and The Slipper Room.

Troy specializes in dance trapeze, aerial silks, aerial straps, and lyra. They also train and have performed rope, Spanish web, hand balancing, and partner acrobatics.

Troy has been coaching aerial arts and flexibility for over eight years. Pulling from their training with coaches from around the world, their teaching method leaves students with an understanding of what they are asked to do rather than the ability to mimic a sequence, as well as a deeper relationship with students’ musculature and skeleton. With an emphasis on technique and theory, Troy will help build the foundation for your body and mind to safely create original pathways.
