Object Manipulation

Monday, 2/2 @ 7:30pm-9:00pm

Led by Kyle Driggs and Book Kennison, this workshop introduces a fundamental approach to toss juggling and the broader world of object manipulation. Participants will learn fundamental techniques of throwing and catching while developing a deeper understanding of how to interact with a variety of non traditional props.

From rings, balls, and clubs to hats, canes, and everyday objects, you'll learn how to approach manipulation from a fresh perspective. Leave with a toolkit of exercises, progressions, and creative ideas to continue exploring beyond the workshop. Prior juggling and object manipulation experience is recommended.

Aerial Rope with Leigh Rennels

Tuesday, 1/27 & Wednesday, 1/28 @ 6:30pm-8:30pm

All skill levels are welcome!

Come explore a movement and somatic based aerial rope intensive. We will delve into spinning and rolling techniques as well as learning building blocks for exploring personal creation and research.

Participants will be guided through movements with an awareness on breath, body alignment, and sensations of body relating to the rope. This workshop will delve into explorations which can continue being explored in personal practice.

(Intentionally we will not be exploring catch and release moves/dynamics.)

Contortion Workshop

Thursday, 1/29 @ 6:30pm-8:00pm

Led by Dia Seskin and Leigh Rennels, this workshop introduces safe and foundational approaches to traditional contortion techniques. Participants will begin with focused instruction on alignment, flexibility, and conditioning.

The second half of the workshop shifts into an explorative and collaborative format, inviting participants to integrate contortion into creative movement and floor work. Through guided experimentation, movers will discover new pathways and develop personal vocabulary that connects technique with vocabulary and choreography.

3AM Master Class

Friday, 1/30 @ 6:30pm-8:30pm

Taught by the entire company of 3AM Theatre, this two-hour workshop immerses participants in the full 3AM experience and creative methodology, from warming up the body and mind to exploring the ensemble-based process of building new work. Participants will gain insight into how to research, discover, and draw inspiration from existing material while developing ideas that reflect their own artistic voice.

In true 3AM fashion, the class encourages breaking boundaries and questioning conventions found within circus. Through guided improvisation, group composition exercises, and collaborative problem-solving, participants will explore how narrative, structure, and design elements intersect with physical performance. Expect to experiment, exchange ideas, and build short compositions that reflect the shared energy of the group. All movers, disciplines, and experience levels are welcome.

Floor Acrobatics & Set Exploration

Sunday, 2/1 @ 9:00am-10:30am

Join 3AM Theatre's cast members Matthew Morgan, Kyle Driggs, and Book Kennison for a two-hour workshop exploring the intersection of floor acrobatics and 3AM's signature set pieces. Following a group warm-up, participants will be guided to integrate elements of their own acrobatic or movement vocabulary with architectural structures and objects.

Working in site-specific environments challenges awareness, adaptability, and creativity, offering a universal skill for acrobats navigating new terrain. Discover new pathways, learn foundational techniques for working with props and set pieces, and engage in instructor-led improvisation.

This workshop offers a chance to experiment with everyday objects like tables and chairs as well as 3AM apparatuses such as staircases and archways. Some prior experience in acrobatics or movement and a willingness to improvise are recommended. Please bring acrobatic or gym shoes.
